About the Role:Our client is seeking an experienced
Histology professional to lead their afternoon shift team. This is a hands-on leadership position ideal for someone with strong technical expertise and a passion for mentoring and developing others.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Salary: $106,000 plus super (including shift allowances)
Location: Southeast Melbourne
Key Responsibilities: - Lead and supervise a team of 10 staff Histology scientists of the afternoon shift, including task delegation and workflow management
- Perform and oversee routine Histology tasks, including Cut Up (simple and complex), Embedding, and Microtomy
- Conduct non-routine and specialised testing as required, ensuring compliance with NATA accreditation.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Monitor lab operations to ensure efficiency and adherence to safety and quality standards
- Provide training, guidance, and support to team members, fostering professional growth
- Participate in internal audits
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Build a rapport with internal (Pathologists and Senior Managers) and external stakeholders.
About You: - Minimum 7 years’ experience in a diagnostic Histology laboratory
- 2+ years’ leadership experience
- Bachelor of Medical Science or equivalent
- Demonstrates having the skill set of analysing the workflow and applying the delegation of tasks in a diagnostic Histology laboratory
- Demonstrates understanding of problem-solving ancillary tests that are not ‘routinely’ requested in a Histology laboratory and triaging to the appropriate channels
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach
- Display initiative with a problem-solving mindset
