Process Engineer (Senior), Water Treatment

The Process Engineer provides hands-on technical and operational support to the operations and maintenance teams at a large-scale industrial water treatment facility in Kwinana, Western Australia.

This role is responsible for ensuring the plant operates safely, efficiently, and reliably while consistently meeting required quality, environmental, and regulatory standards. Working closely with site-based teams, the Process Engineer monitors overall process performance, investigates operational issues, and leads initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, stability, and system performance.

The facility utilises a range of advanced treatment processes, including neutralisation, clarification, solids separation and dewatering, media filtration, ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis. The role operates within the framework of Western Australian mining industry requirements, along with strict WorkSafe and environmental compliance obligations, with a strong emphasis on safe operations, process optimisation, and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor and optimise plant performance to ensure efficiency, stability, and compliance with water quality and environmental standards
  • Analyse operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities
  • Provide technical support during process upsets, including chemical dosing, membrane performance, and solids handling
  • Maintain and improve process documentation, operating procedures, and monitoring systems
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and cost performance
  • Support commissioning activities, performance testing, and optimisation trials
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams on plant improvements and modifications
  • Ensure compliance with site safety systems, environmental requirements, and relevant regulatory standards
  • Participate in risk assessments, HAZOPs, and incident investigations
  • Promote a proactive safety and environmental culture across operations
  • Deliver regular reporting on plant performance, key process indicators and improvement initiatives
  • Support root cause analysis for process deviations and incidents
  • Contribute to data-driven operational decision-making
  • Support training and upskilling of operators and process controllers
  • Contribute to development of process guides and operational standards
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement

ABOUT YOU
  • Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering
  • Approximately 5+ years’ experience in water treatment, desalination, mining, or process/industrial environments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water treatment technologies such as UF, RO, clarification and dewatering.
  • Experience with process monitoring tools, data interpretation, and performance optimisation.
  • Familiarity with maintenance, control systems, and laboratory analysis will be advantageous.
